We're Expanding Atlascope! We have some exciting news: our team is expanding Atlascope to cover even more towns in Massachusetts! Transforming a single atlas from printed pages into a modern, readable web-layer is both costly and time-consuming—it can take up to 60 hours of skilled labor—so we need help from you and your communities to make this happen. Do you know institutions or groups that would want to sponsor an atlas of their town? Last Call: Small Grants for Early Career Digital Publications Are you working on a scholarly project that would come alive for the public through an interactive digital publication? The Small Grants for Early Career Digital Publications program provides funding and technical assistance for scholars in any humanities or social science discipline working towards a digital publication for the public. Applications open through May 18, 2023. Applications Open: Fall 2023 Undergraduate Internships Hey undergrads, we want to work with you! We’re looking to hire a cohort of undergraduate interns focused on geospatial research or development & fundraising to train in topics spanning geospatial technology, public humanities, and nonprofit management. Internships are paid and require a commitment of 7–10 hours per week. Applications are due by May 26. In-Person: Author Talk — Blake Gumprecht on North To Boston · June 7, 6:00pm ET Join us on Thursday, June 7 at 6:00PM EST with Blake Gumprecht for a talk on his new book, North to Boston: Life Histories from the Black Great Migration in New England. North to Boston traces the history of the Great Migration, when tens of thousands of Black people moved to Boston from the South, and explores its impacts in greater depth through the lives of ten individuals, each the subject of one chapter. In-Person: K12 Educator Professional Development Workshop · July 10-12 Hey Boston teachers! Are you teaching the new AP African American Studies course? This three-day workshop, Lifting as We Climb: Black Women’s Activism in Turn-of-the-20th Century Boston, is designed in conjunction with our current Building Blocks exhibition to expand participants’ knowledge and comfort in teaching the role and impact of women in Boston’s Black history. Designed for teachers in grade 3-12. In-Person: From The Vault — Mechanical Maps · May 26, 2:00pm ET Looking to add more maps to your life? Join us for an afternoon of close map looking! For this edition of From The Vault, we’ll take a look at objects from our collections that move — including a live demonstration of our new mapping robot! |
