How It's Made: Peeling Back the Layers of Atlascope “There is a very natural integration between our personal curiosities and the presentation of Atlascope, with all the cartographic details of historic urban atlases aligned seamlessly to a modern digital map—that is, until they are not,” writes Patricio Pino in his latest article, which examines the process of creating Atlascope. Meet Andy Woodruff, Our 2023 Designer-in-Residence This year marks the inauguration of our Designer-in-Residence fellowship, a new program aimed at supporting creative work in cartography, growing our original collections, and exhibiting how maps are made in the present day. The Small Grants for Early Career Digital Publications program provides funding and technical assistance for scholars in any humanities or social science discipline working towards a digital publication for the public. Applications open through May 18, 2023. Summer Opportunities for K-12 Educators Calling all K-12 educators! We’re offering three great professional development programs this summer, from a 3-day workshop tied to our current exhibition to two paid opportunities to dig into our map collections and create original curriculum. K-12 School Vacation Week Activities Join our K-12 team with the staff of the BPL Children’s Library for two school vacation week activities! On Wednesday, we’ll learn how maps can help shape imaginary worlds, explore examples from books, and make maps of our own. On Friday, we’ll explore grids, circles, imaginary landscapes, origami, and more, all using maps as materials.
