Two New In-Person and Digital Exhibitions Our two brand-new exhibitions, Building Blocks and Becoming Boston, are now open in our gallery at the Central Library in Copley Square! If you can’t make it to Boston in person, we encourage you to explore the accompanying digital exhibitions and check out this recent exhibition review in The Boston Globe. In-Person: Black Boston Stories — Growing Up · Feb 9, 6:00pm ET What was it like to grow up in the Boston of the past? What challenges face young Bostonians today? Join us for a panel conversation on Thursday, February 9 at 6PM at the Grove Hall Branch of the Boston Public Library with three longtime Boston residents. Attendees are welcome to participate in the conversation. How did Korean cartography evolve in the Joseon period? During the late Joseon dynasty, interest in cartography and the production of maps in general became widespread in Korea. In his latest interactive Map Chat, Richard Pegg of the MacLean Collection explores the world of Korean atlases or Yeojido (輿地圖). Deadline Approaching: New England Regional Fellowship Consortium We are a participating institution in the New England Regional Fellowship Consortium managed by the Massachusetts Historical Society. The fellowship offers a $5,000 stipend for historians to work with at least three participating institutions over the course of eight weeks. In-Person: From The Vault — Airlines and Air Travel · Feb 3, 2:00pm ET Looking to add more maps to your life? Join us for an afternoon of close map looking! For this edition of From The Vault, we’ll take a look at objects from our collections that map histories of air travel. Drop in any time between 2:00pm - 4:00pm. Reflecting on 2022 2022 was a busy year at the Map Center! We opened two in-person exhibitions at the Central Library, added 79 new items to our collections, hosted or partnered on 21 public events, and worked with over 2,000 students and teachers. We’re grateful to all those who have made our work possible this past year! |
