Coming in 2023: Two New Exhibitions

As we move into the new year, our gallery will see an exciting new change: two exhibitions instead of one! On January 13, we’ll open the new featured exhibition Building Blocks: Boston Stories from Urban Atlases. At the same time, we’ll also open our new semi-permanent exhibition Becoming Boston: Eight Moments in the Geography of a Changing City. As always, admission to the gallery is free to all.

For folks in Boston, we invite you to visit one last time up through December 28, and for those unable to visit in person, the companion digital exhibition will remain on our website for the indefinite future.

Awarded "Most Viewed" for 2022

The results are in! This 1886 map of the Imperial Federation was one of the most viewed maps in our Digital Collections this year. It glorifies the late-19th-century British Empire and was once displayed in our Journeys of the Imagination (2006) and Unconventional Maps: Exploring the Stories of Cartographic Curiosities (2011-2012) exhibitions.
