How are Boston's recent heat waves connected to environmental justice? A two-part series from WCVB CityLine, “Climate Justice in Boston” is a documentary series focused on the disproportionate effects of Boston’s recent heat waves. The program features Rev. Mariama White-Hammond, Rev. Vernon K. Walker, the Museum of Science’s Wicked Hot Boston, and calls to action for the local community. Does summer heat have you dreaming about a trip to Maine? We recently posted a 1912 tourist map showing principal summer vacation resorts reached by the Boston & Maine Railroad. With the recent Boston heat wave, our staff has had dreams of travel floating through our minds. This past Friday, our team headed to Portland, Maine to visit our friends at the Osher Map Library for a day of staff learning and we got to see the railroad map in their current exhibition, Vacationland: Mapping History in Maine. Are you our next trivia champion? In case you missed it, our Boston transit trivia last Thursday was a hit! We had 32 teams competing for transportation-themed maps and a copy of Steven Beaucher’s out-of-print book Boston in Transit. And in case you really are getting FOMO, here’s the trivia questions our teams faced. Last week’s event was our final trivia night of the summer, but we’re looking at bringing back trivia for the fall and would love to get your ideas for topics related to Boston history & geography. Tell us what would get you out for a fun night of trivia with friends or family—or if you’ve come before, let us know what you thought of your experience. Virtual Event: Mapping the Mystic River · Aug 18, 4pm ET Join the us with the Mystic River Watershed Association (MyRWA) for a conversation on the historic Mystic River and MyRWA’s past and present efforts to protect it. This talk will map development along the Mystic River, touching on the need for public access and climate resilience planning. This talk is part of our Continued Conversations series in conjunction with our current environmental justice exhibition, More or Less in Common: Environment and Justice in the Human Landscape. |
