As a British publication this map reflects the British interest in Florida in the second half of the 18th century. Florida was a pivotal point for negotiations between Britain, France and Spain and was territory gained by the British from the Spanish after the French and Indian War, in exchange for Cuba.
This map provides important nautical information of the time and is part of the Leventhal Map Center Maritime Charts and Atlases Collection of Distinction, in addition to adding to the collection of American Revolutionary War era material.
