Civitates is the first published collection of images of worldwide cities and towns of the time. Primarily including images of European cities the atlas includes some images of Asian and American cities. These are very significant volumes being the first published record of city plans.

A variety of views are included including landscape maps, views and birds-eye views giving a variety of geographical and spatial perspectives. Depictions show great detail such as features of clothing worn by the figures presented in the images.

Civitates is a very important part of the Leventhal Map Center Urban Maps Collection of Distinction
